Patterns, Not Perfection

A few years ago, I sat in a training and heard a statement that stopped me in my tracks:
“I know this seems hard, but remember — practice makes permanent.”
I looked up from taking notes and looked around. Was I the only one experiencing this epiphany? It was like heaven opened up, and I heard angels. Lol Yes. ANGELS!
The Problem With Perfection
Most of us grew up hearing: Practice makes perfect. But what if your “life’s rubric” says you only count as successful if you do things perfectly?

Perfection is exhausting. The bar keeps moving. It demands flawlessness before you even begin. And if that’s the standard, many of us won’t start — because perfect feels impossible.
But permanent is different. It doesn’t require perfection; It requires repetition. Small actions practiced consistently become part of who we are.
So, What Are We Practicing?
Are we practicing harsh self-talk? Avoidance? Assuming the worst?
Or, are we practicing grace? Trying again? Pausing before reacting?
The beautiful — and sometimes uncomfortable — truth is this:
We don’t have to be perfect to change our lives. We only must practice something different. We must practice patterns, not perfection.

Small shifts, repeated consistently, become who we are.
Confidence isn’t something you wake up with. It’s practiced. Boundaries aren’t personality traits. They’re practiced. Calm responses in hard moments? Also practiced.
And eventually… permanent.
