Forgotten Passions

People working in the office

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how passionate we used to be when we were younger.

We would get completely lost in things. Books, movies, sports, art—whatever it was, we gave it our full attention! I remember being a teenager and reading the entire Twilight series in less than 72 hours. I was hooked, and nothing else mattered.

And then life happens.

Responsibilities stack up. School turns into work. Free time gets replaced with obligations.

For some of us, it becomes caring for kids, or managing a home, or showing up for everyone else. Slowly, without even realizing it, the things we once loved start to fade into the background.

Not because we stopped loving them—but because life got louder…

When was the last time you got lost in a book? The last time you played a game just for fun? Shot a basketball, joined a pickup game, painted something, watched a movie, and actually felt it?

Somewhere along the way, our forgotten passions got pushed aside to make room for our responsibilities.

And listen—life changes! It’s okay that we don’t spend hours doing those things anymore. That

season of life looked different. But growing up doesn’t have to mean losing yourself.

You’re still allowed to enjoy things. You’re still allowed to feel that spark.

Maybe it doesn’t look like 72 hours straight with a book anymore. Maybe it’s 20 minutes before bed. Maybe it’s a weekend walk with a podcast you love. Maybe it’s shooting hoops for half an hour, or picking up something creative again just because.

The question isn’t “Do I have time?” It’s “What mattered to me—and how can I make space for it again?”

What’s something you used to love?

And what would it look like to welcome it back into your life, even just a little?
